Requesting a transfer takes just 5 minutes via our app. Choose the guide below that matches your situation to get started.
You will need the Tembo app that can be downloaded from the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android).
1. How to transfer a Lifetime ISA (LISA)
⚠️ Important: You cannot transfer a Lifetime ISA to a Cash ISA (or vice versa) due to government regulations.
Open a new Lifetime ISA in the app.
Select ‘Transfer a Lifetime ISA to us’.
Select your current provider. Have your account number and balance ready.
Choose your account type: Cash Lifetime ISA or Stocks & Shares Lifetime ISA.
Link your bank account. This must be a personal account in your name. We use this for identity verification via Open Banking and to power your future savings.
Confirm your details (Name, DOB) and accept the T&Cs.
Transfer Initiated! We will email you a copy of your transfer-in form. Your old provider may contact you to confirm the move.
2. How to transfer a Cash or Fixed Rate ISA
If you are a new customer:
Select the savings account you wish to open.
Accept the T&Cs and confirm your identity (Name, DOB, NI Number).
Fund your account. Select "Transfer another ISA to us".
Select your current provider and enter your account number/balance.
Done! We will email you a copy of your transfer-in form.
If you are an existing customer:
Open the Tembo app and tap Settings (bottom right).
Select ‘Transfer in an existing ISA’.
Select your current provider and enter your account number/balance.
Done! We will handle the rest.
Common Questions
⏱️ How long does the transfer take?
Timelines vary depending on the account type and your old provider:
Cash ISA: Up to 14 working days.
Fixed Rate ISA: Up to 15 working days.
Lifetime ISA: 2 to 6 weeks (details are checked manually).
Note: Delays can occur if personal details (like your address) don't match exactly between providers. Please ensure your Tembo profile is up to date.
📈 When do I start earning interest?
For Cash ISAs, you start earning interest from the date we receive the funds from your old provider. This is backdated once the transfer is fully complete.
🔍 Where is my Tembo Account Number?
Go to Settings Tab > My Profile.

Note: Tembo is a savings provider, not a bank. Your savings account does not have a traditional sort code and account number for direct bank transfers. You must deposit via the linked account in the app.

If a deposit fails, try sending a smaller amount first. Banks often flag large initial payments to new payees as "unusual activity." A small successful payment helps verify the connection.
